I’m getting ready to case the beam I put up. I want it to have a farm house look so I’ll be getting some rough sawn pine. It comes in a fresh clean color but I want a wrahtered look and I don’t want to stick it outside and wait forever for it to naturally weather. I looked it up online and found you can soak steel wool in vinigar and it will turn pine grey.
This was my test run.

A friend of mine has a ~200 year old house and in renovating the kitchen, they found some old beams that were obviously hand-made, not with a sawmill of any sort. But they needed to put in some other beams to make the space work structurally, so the guys did some things to some modern lumber to make it look like the old stuff, and it’s amazing how similar it looks; you really have to look closely to tell the old from the “new-old.”

O ok. I thought you were saying it would turn it white. That sounds like a pretty nasty combo and should be done outside

That’s pretty cool. Old houses are nice and have so much character but they require a lot of work. I looked at a house from 1750s. That it pre-USA time. It was awesome but to make it family friendly I would have to take all the old stuff out. That thing was museum quality
